Considering the digital divide caused by the pandemic, ekShop launched p-Commerce to take orders of grocery and emergency goods through phone calls by utilizing tollfree calls in National Call Center “333” during COVID lockdown. This service, called ‘Phone e Nittoponno was the country’s first mobile-based e-Commerce service. It was easily accessible by the mass population and simple to operate. ‘
It employed extensive IVR systems to ensure all calls were dispatched to the waiting agents, while the countrywide scattered 6000+ volunteers used the integrated GIS mapping of 115K shops, 5000 pharmacies nearest shops and service points.
Now ekShop’s extended DPI services models and back-end support mechanism are empowering individuals, communities beyond Bangladesh’s geographic territory. Currently, countries like South Sudan, Yemen, Turkey are using the ekShop DPG model for financial empowerments of their vulnerable communities through digital commerce. A few other countries have also showed their interests in the ekShop model.
